Linda Nitz, age 79, of Irvington, AL passed away at hospice in Mobile, AL due to advanced liver failure. She was born on November 14, 1943 in Waukegan, IL and was the daughter of Harold and Lucille Juul. On August 25, 1962 she married the love of her life, Richard Nitz and celebrated 58 years with each other.
Linda joined her husband in moving to Bayou La Batre to start a successful hardware business in 1977 which continued until 1998. She continued in the hardware business after where she met her chosen family the Colley’s. Linda never met a stranger, she had the gift of hospitality and loved having people share her world. From baking cookies with the neighborhood kids to joining a grief support group after her husband passed. She was an active member of her local church First United Methodist Church of Bayou La Batre and remained active in the Florida Corvette Club once they moved back to AL in 2008. Anyone she came into contact with was considered a friend. Linda was also extremely creative with her love of painting and working on crafts.
Preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Harold and Lucille Juul, her brother Larry Juul and brothers-in-law Larry Thomas, Ron Long and Gary Nitz.
Linda is survived by her daughter Jane (Randal) Douglas of Grand Bay, AL and son John Nitz of Austin, TX, and sisters Carrie Lou Thomas of L’Anse MI, Christel Long of Indianapolis, IN and Luann (John) Poll of Athelstane, WI and sister-in-law Patti Juul of Iron Mountain, MI. Also surviving are many nephews, nieces, chosen family members along with many friends and neighbors.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday July 29, 2023 @ 10am at the First United Methodist Church of Bayou La Batre.
