

Gerald Brock was born in Detroit, MI on August 23, 1933, to the late Robert and Evelyn Brock. Gerald was the second eldest of four siblings, all of whom preceded him in death: Vivian Williams, Curtis Brock (Carol), and Delores Brock. He passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him.
Gerald graduated from Sidney D. Miller High School in Detroit and went on to excel as a varsity track athlete at Eastern Michigan University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in special education. He received his law degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1961. Gerald’s distinguished career includes over 20 years as a self-employed attorney and more than 15 years as a judge at the 36th District Court in Detroit. He served on the trustee board of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church and was active in several professional organizations. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, National Bar Association; State Bar of Michigan, Tau Epsilon Rho Legal Fraternity; Wolverine Bar Association, Michigan District Judge Association, board member; Association of Black Judges of Michigan and Homes for Black Children, board member.
He married Lou Alice Brock in 1951, and from that union three children were born: Rodney Brock (Karen), Geraldine Brock-Johnson (Byron), and Kathy Carter. Rodney preceded him in death. He found great satisfaction in being there, offering encouragement, and staying involved, leaving behind memories that families will treasure for years to come.
In 1969 he met and married Jacqueline Holmes Brock where they lived life to the fullest. After retiring Gerald and Jackie relocated to Sun Lakes, Arizona.
An avid golfer and skier, he embraced the outdoors with enthusiasm and determination well into his later years. Whether on the fairway or the slopes, he derived satisfaction from physical activity, embracing both the challenges and the sense of camaraderie involved. He was a legendary member of Jim Dandy Ski Club, Detroit 1st African American Ski club. Gerald was known for being a sharp dresser and his love of entertaining-bringing people together with warmth, laughter, and generous hospitality.
Curiosity, meaningful relationships, and an authentic zest for life shaped who he was. People will remember him for his storytelling, his warm and inviting nature, and the way he showed others how to live life to the fullest with grace.
He leaves to cherish his memories daughters Geraldine Brock-Johnson (Byron), Kathy Carter; Grandchildren Andre Brock, Teri Brock, Keisha Chambers Brock, Aisha Kirkland (Jaren) and Khalid Johnson; daughter in-law Karin Brock-Massey; Great Grandchildren Jaidyn Smith and Terri Brock Winter. Sister-in-law Rosemarie Word and brother-in-law Alfred Holmes (Ora); Niece Michelle Word, Nephew Roscoe Word Jr. (Joyce) and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His wife, Jacqueline Holmes Brock, and his son, Rodney Brock, passed away before him.
The family extends a heart-felt thank-you to those who showed special care and kindness for Gerald including Frances Naylor Johnson, Linda Brown, Joyce Word, Felicia Wheatley, and the staff at The Blake (Township).
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026 2:00 PM at Char Restaurant 4500 Interstate 55 North, Frontage Road, Jackson, MS 39211 where family and friends will gather to honor a remarkable man who leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and family.
