In 1941 she and the family moved to California, grew up in Hillsborough and attended Mercy High School in Burlingame.
In 1958 she married John Stipicevich from Burlingame, CA and started a family. They moved to Fremont, CA, in 1968 and raised four boys whom they were incredibly proud of. She was active in all of her son’s activities and served on numerous PTA boards during those school years. She prioritized her family above everything else in her life and said one of her greatest accomplishments was raising her four boys.
In 1992 she married Julien Simmons and moved to Daphne, Alabama. Carol quickly became a proper Southern lady and loved Daphne. While there, Carol kept busy as an avid quilter. She volunteered with the Friends of the Library, the Daphne Senior Center, and was involved with the Eastern Shore Doll Club.
After the passing of Julien she remained in Daphne and continued her involvement in the community.
In recent years, Carol enjoyed the friendship of Gary Sides. They traveled to many area quilt shows and festivals where they would sell handcrafted quilts. Gary said sales were always better when Carol was around because she would always engage the passersby into a conversation; and Carol was good at talking!
Carol made friends easily in life and she had many of them. She valued her friendships, even staying in touch with friends from her kindergarten, high school, and from her years in Girl Scouts. She made everyone feel special and important. If you met Carol, you were an instant friend. Whether it was the local Publix grocery store or the local bank branch, Carol loved people and hearing about their lives as much as she enjoyed sharing hers.
Carol was a vivacious and caring woman who spent most of her life thinking about others. She was the Belle of the Ball, star of the show, and truly a wonder to behold. She was a wife, mother, friend, confidant, teacher, and volunteer. Carol was strong, confident, compassionate, kind, caring, smart, and talented. She was an ardent supporter of her sons’ endeavors and there were many. She will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate to know her.
She was was preceded in death by her husbands John Stipicevich and Julien Simmons.
She is survived by her four sons, John, Paul, Robert, and Thomas; grandchildren Amanda and Celeste, and a great-grandchild Abbey.
