Ricky Dean Cook

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rick Dean Cook, who peacefully left this world in his daughter's home on July 6, 2026. Love and peace surrounded him. Born in Colorado on August 22, 1958, to loving parents Janet and Ivan Cook. Rick was a cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a testament to the power of hard work, love, perseverance and laughter.

Rick spent his career as a big-rig driver, a job he took great pride in and that allowed him to see the beauty of our vast country. His dedication and work ethic were admired by all who knew him. He had an enduring love for Broncos football, always gathering around the television on Sunday to cheer on his favorite team. He loved his GMC Sierra, afternoons fishing in the mountains, and of course chatting up the bartender at his favorite watering hole. He was kind, loving and always good for a laugh.

On his last day with us, he was flirting with his social worker and crabby with his daughter, saying she was going to be late for work, continually pointing at his wrist, where there was no watch. Rick kept his sense of humor throughout his illness, making jokes even in the most uncomfortable situations. His lightheartedness lasted to the end. His humor was dry but infectious, and his laughter could light up the darkest of rooms, and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his children, Stephanie, Michael, and Jacob; his mother, Janet; his brother, Tim; his sister, Debbie; two grandchildren, Brennan and Kendrick; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Ivan.

True to his nature, he did not wish his passing to be a “big fuss”. And certainly didn’t want the “spectacle,” as he called it, of an open casket or traditional service. His wishes were simple: a celebration of life with his family, all at the same table, for a steak dinner and a shot of whiskey.

A celebration of Rick's life will be held on July 18, 2026, at Fleming’s Steakhouse in St. Louis, beginning at 5:00 PM. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them for cocktails between 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM, followed by a private dinner for family members at 6:30 PM.

The Cook family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the tireless caregivers at the end, Angie Proffitt, Kari Boyer and incredible staff at Unity Hospice for their quick, compassionate care and support during Rick’s final days.
