With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of David John (Wayne) Kleekamp on July 16, 2024, in Columbia, Missouri. David was born on July 24, 1967, in Fremont, Nebraska, to the late John and Regina (Coday) Kleekamp. His life, spanning nearly 57 years, was a testament to kindness, humor, and genuine love for family and friends.
David was a proud graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa, class of 1986, and went on to further his education by graduating from National Education Center (NEC) in West Des Moines, Iowa, His deep passion for electronics and music was evident throughout his life, and he often found solace and joy in these hobbies. David's talents and interests were a significant part of his identity, bringing happiness to not only himself but to those around him.
David relocated to the West Coast in 1988, after receiving his degree, and landed in what became his ‘happy place’ Seattle Washington. This also became the start of his decades long career at University of Washington Hospitals and Clinics as a Biomedical Electronics Technician. David took great pride in his long-standing career and his knowledge and expertise in his field. David moved back to the Midwest upon his retirement in 2018 settling in Columbia Mo.
David was a kind, good-hearted man who left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He was funny, sensitive, accepting, gracious, fun, lovable, ornery, honest, true, and genuine. His spirit was one of warmth and acceptance, offering comfort to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
David's life was a beautiful blend of love, laughter, and dedication to those he held dear. He had a unique ability to make others feel special and valued, a testament to his gracious and accepting nature. His genuine, true spirit was a constant source of love and kindness.
As we remember David, let us celebrate his life by cherishing our time with loved ones and finding joy in simple pleasures, just as he did. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the many lives he touched with his kindness and sincerity.
Rest in peace dear sweet David. Your presence in our lives was a gift, and your memory will be cherished forever.
He is survived by his loving siblings: his brother Stephen (Traci) Kleekamp of Columbia, Missouri; his sister Paula (Bill) Galivan of Polk City, Iowa; his sister Sheila (Derek) Campbell of Urbandale, Iowa; and his brother Richard Kleekamp. David cherished his role as an uncle to his nieces and nephews: Jeannie (Ryan) Jaworski, Ian Kleekamp, Wyatt “Evan” Kleekamp, Erin Kleekamp, Zac Campbell, Amanda Campbell, William Kleekamp, Kassedy Kleekamp, and Samantha Galivan. The joy of his life was further enriched by his adorable great-nieces: Zara, Charleigh, and Brynleigh Kleekamp. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends near and far that he loved greatly and who will miss him dearly. And, George, the only animal David didn’t like.
David was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John and Regina Kleekamp, his paternal grandparents Erwin and Marie Kleekamp, and his maternal grandparents J. Raymond and Rose Coday.
There will be a Celebration of David’s life where family and friends will gather to share stories, memories, and celebrate the remarkable person he was. Please join us to celebrate the life and times with David.
