Alice Sue Hacker

Alice was born at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, IL on November 9, 1945, to Anna Mae Rausch Hacker and Wilburn Emmerson Hacker, who preceded her in death. She was one of five siblings. She is survived by her best friend, Barb Gibbs, of Golconda, IL. Her Caregivers who helped make it possible for her to reside at her brother’s house were Patty McDowell and Beverly Sandefur. The fur babies that helped make her feel at home were Missy Sue and Red Baby. We often told her they had become her dogs. She enjoyed her many friends and coworkers throughout the years.

She graduated from Lockport Township High School, Lockport, IL in 1963. She graduated from Joliet Junior College, Joliet, IL in 1965 with a degree in education. She graduated from Illinois State University, Normal, IL with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1967 and a Master of Science in Education in 1969.

She taught Intermediate grades in northern Illinois before relocating to be near her parents in Golconda. She was a beloved, wonderful teacher that taught 6th grade until her retirement at Pope County Elementary School in June 2006.All her former students at Pope County remember her yearly classroom project of incubating and raising baby chickens and ducks.

Her earlier hobbies and interests were sewing, playing the organ, cooking (She was always trying out new recipes.), and traveling. She visited many of the southwestern states, three of the Hawaiian Islands, Washington, DC, New York City, and in her later years Paris, France, and London, England. For several years she enjoyed managing the family farm for her brothers and sisters

Her passion was raising and tending to “her birds”, (chickens and ducks). You never left her house without her at least offering you a dozen eggs or more.

To know her was to love her. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Per her wishes, there will be no public service or burial.
