Born on June 28, 1944, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Richard David Hatch Jr. and Katherine Evalena Vines Hatch, Charlie graduated from Aransas Pass High School and earned a BBA degree in accounting from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1968.
After working several years in Houston, Charlie moved to Corpus Christi and in 1971 formed the public accounting firm Flusche & Hatch in which he was a partner until 1979, when he left public accounting to enter private business.
After working for a number of years in the oil & gas industry in San Antonio, Charlie founded Red Line Burgers in Corpus Christi and served as its president until 1999. Subsequently, he founded Reliant Storage Solutions in Portland in 2001 which operates a self storage center and until recently, PostNet Business Center.
Charlie’s entrepreneurial spirit led him into diverse ventures throughout his life including cattle ranching, developing a manufactured home community, boat storage facilities, record storage services, and medical waste disposal.
Charlie participated in service to his community, serving as president of the Aransas Pass School Board while his daughters attended school and serving on the Portland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for a number of years and as its president for three terms. He also served as president of the Rotary Club in Portland and with his wife, Dr. Patrizia Gentile, founded The Order of the Sparkling City, a public charity that sponsored the annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball from which proceeds were donated to charities in the Coast Bend benefitting women and children in need. Charlie was also an enthusiastic mentor to many young people over the years.
A passionate fisherman, Charlie traveled extensively across North and Central America - and even Croatia- in search of gamefish. He relished weekends fishing with family and friends off the coast of Port Aransas and in the flats of the intercoastal waterway, reeling in redfish and trout. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, cooking and racquetball.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Richard Hatch III. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Patrizia Gentile; sisters Dora Ann Ortego (Brent) and Kay Durrett (Jim); sister-in-law Nancy Hatch; daughters Jean (Gary) Tiedeman and Stacy Hatch; stepdaughter Stefania Gentile; grandson Lucas (Maggie) Tiedeman and granddaughter Laine (John) Rice; former spouse Sandra Hatch; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who lovingly knew him as Uncle Charlie.
A private memorial service will be held at a date and location to be announced.
