

Elizabeth “Liz” Gideon of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on November 17, 1931, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Liz spent her childhood there as an only child, surrounded by the close-knit community that helped shape her warm and friendly spirit.
Liz graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1950 and soon married her high school sweetheart, Jim Gideon, on May 31, 1951. Shortly after their marriage, Jim joined the United States Army, and the couple spent several years moving from state to state before eventually settling in Corpus Christi, Texas with Liz’s mother. In 1965, they joyfully expanded their family through adoption, welcoming their son David.
Liz worked as a secretary for Dr. Hudson in Corpus Christi until stepping away from her career to focus on raising her family following the birth of her daughter, Amy, in 1971. She dedicated herself to creating a loving home and was known for her kindness, generosity, and the steady support she gave to those around her.
Throughout her life, Liz was active in her community and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She and her husband were proud members of the Elks Lodge, where they built many lasting friendships. The couple also enjoyed participating together in a local bowling league. Liz had a lively and social personality and loved gathering with friends for games of Bunco. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Red Hats Society, embracing the group’s spirit of friendship, fun, and celebration of life.
Liz was preceded in death by her father, David Silas “Pete” Chapman; her mother, Maude Chapman; and her beloved husband, Jim Gideon.
She is survived by her son, David Gideon of New Braunfels, Texas; her daughter, Amy Gideon of Corpus Christi, Texas; and her grandson, Joshua Gideon of New Braunfels, Texas. Her family will remember her as a devoted mother and grandmother whose love and guidance shaped their lives in countless ways.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Alejandro Estrada at the Neptune Society for the care and compassion shown to Liz and her family during her final days.
A small service and interment will be held at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi on Tuesday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Liz’s honor to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Liz will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the friendships she cherished throughout her long and meaningful life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
