

Known to most as a sassy, quick witted, kind soul in her older years and a fun loving, country dancing, dare devil, hairdresser in her younger years, Doris Jean Torres Hammond (Hill), of Orange Grove, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the age of 80 years and 5 months.
She was born in Jasper, Alabama on January 23, 1945 (or as she like to tell everyone when they asked for her date of birth – 12345), to Cecil and Ethel K. Hill. At an early age, her mother Ethel (Kathryn) divorced and then remarried John England when Doris Jean was 5 years of age. John raised her as his own and she affectionately called him Daddy for the rest of his life. When she was a young girl, she learned to play the accordion.
Doris Jean is survived by her son, James (Jimmy) Torres and his wife Sharon of Kingwood, Texas; daughter, Annette Hamlyn of Orange Grove, Texas; daughter, Sheli Torres of Humble, Texas; her granddaughter, Kristan Torres of Cypress, Texas; grandson, Ryan Torres and his wife Courtney of Liberty Hill, Texas; granddaughter, Chandler Hamlyn of Converse, Texas; great grandchildren, Jillian and Gavin Marosko, Bryce Gossett, Colter, Brenham and Ryker Torres; brother James Hill and his wife Lexi of Chugiak, Alaska; and sister Marie Walker and her husband Dale of Live Oak, Florida; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Hill, her mother and daddy, John and Ethel K. England, and her brother Edward Owen Hill.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life at a later date.
