Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on October 13, 1955, Bruce was the embodiment of strength, love, and resilience. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaiah and Alethea Ladson of Marina, California.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Olivia Ladson; his children, Dereck (Beth) Ladson of Lago Vista, TX, and Sheila (Ian) Coleman of North Pole, AK; and his beloved grandchildren: Deja, Deshon, Khalia, Olivia, Marlie, Luis, Karissa, Cameryn, and Chasmine, as well as his great-granddaughter, Aura. He also leaves behind his brother, Alan Ladson of Tracy, CA; his sister, Donnah White of Craigsville, WV; and many nieces and nephews.
A proud United States Air Force veteran, Bruce served his country with honor for 26 years in both active duty and the Air National Guard, including contributions to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His devotion to his country was matched only by his love for his family. To his children, he was both a best friend and a hero—always offering unconditional love, steady guidance, and unwavering respect. That same love carried into his role as a grandfather, where distance never lessened his warmth and care.
Beyond his military service, Bruce lived a vibrant life. He loved working on vehicles, listening to music, following motorsports, collecting comic books, and cheering on his San Francisco 49ers. His years in Alaska deepened his passion for the outdoors, where he delighted in hunting and fishing for salmon and halibut. Known for his unforgettable stories and a laugh so unique it could never be imitated, Bruce brought joy to everyone around him. He often said he was a “jack of all trades, but master of none”—a phrase he embraced with humor and humility. He especially loved ending his days with cartoons, believing laughter was the best way to close a day.
Bruce’s life will be honored at a memorial service to be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, October 17, 2025 at 1:30 pm in San Antonio, Texas.
Bruce’s story is one of resilience, love, and dedication—to his family, his country, and the world around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
