Born November 13, 1952 in Fort Mead, Maryland, Mike lived in Lebanon, Ohio from early childhood. He graduated from Lebanon High School and later from Taylor University in Indiana where he was loved and admired by many classmates and friends, excelling as a football player at both institutions. He was known for his passion for the game and his unwavering dedication to his faith, family, and friends.
Although he wasn’t an alum, he came from a family with four generations of graduates from The Ohio State University. He shared passionately with anyone and everyone his lifelong love for his Buckeyes.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Eszenyi Snider (Lisa); treasured daughter, Christi Vanzandt (husband Carey); and three cherished sisters, Cathy, Becky, and Debbie. He also leaves behind seven nieces and nephews, along with six grandnieces and grandnephews, one remaining aunt, Phyllis McKinney of Georgetown, Ohio and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jo and Willard Snider.
Known for his kindness, humor, and dedication to the Lord, Mike touched the lives of many. He spent countless summers and cherished years with his closest cousin, Rick Hanby, who, along with Christi, stood by him during his final days. Throughout his hospital stay, he was visited by countless family and friends who shared happy memories and moments of connection in what Mike affectionately called “his living eulogy.” As a counselor, he made a profound impact within his church community and among his clients. Mike was known for never meeting a stranger and often left the house only to encounter someone he knew.
When enduring his treatments, he would often respond to inquiries about his well-being with his favorite quote: “Can’t complain. Never does any good anyway.”
He will forever be cherished and greatly missed. The celebration of life service will be Friday, February 27 at Calvary Fellowship Fountain Valley Church, 4945 Cable Ln, Colorado Springs, with doors opening at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Calvary Fellowship Fountain Valley Mission Ministries or the National Cancer Society.
