Meredith was born on June 27, 1957 in College Station, Texas to Colonel Stuart Wood Jr. and Patricia Meredith Wood. Meredith attended Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado and received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Education from University of Northern Colorado, a Masters of Arts degree in Education from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) and a 2nd Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Human Services from UCCS.
Meredith married the love of her life, “EJ” (Earl Jefferson) Edman, on March 24, 2006 and they spent 9 beautiful years together before EJ preceded her in death in 2013.
Meredith was a dedicated elementary school educator and counselor and worked in the District 20 School System for over 25 years. She continued her teaching at the University of Phoenix and maintained her commitment to counseling those in need until her final day. But her biggest commitment was to her Christian faith, her family and her friends.
Meredith was a dedicated member of Woodmen Valley Chapel in Monument. She served as a greeter and loved meeting new people. She belonged to several bible study groups, as one would never have been enough for her! She loved praying with friends and most recently sought comfort from The Lord in her suffering, even asking friends to pray with her and for her even as she prayed for them. Friends and Family were reciting Psalms 23 over Meredith as she went to be with The Lord.
Meredith battled rheumatoid arthritis her entire life, but it never deterred her from living large. She loved to travel and visited many parts of the world, including China, Russia, Inner Mongolia, Africa, South America, Australia, New Zealand and many parts of Europe. Many of her foreign trips were mission trips, sharing her faith and the Lord’s love. In recent years she enjoyed many camping and road trips with friends as she visited “Old Faithful”, the Tetons and the Rocky Mountains.
Meredith’s zest for life was known by everyone who knew her. She was never one to turn down a new experience or an exciting adventure. She definitely had a dare devil side as she tried it all, sky diving, white water rafting, skiing (both snow and water), sled hockey, parasailing, camping, and rock climbing. On an average day, you could find her enjoying her favorite exercises, swimming laps in the pool or taking her recumbent bike out for a leisurely 25-mile cruise. She loved well, always striving to ensure her Lord, family and friends knew they were most important in her life. She loved anything to do with the beach, social gatherings, game nights, and bible study.
Meredith was preceded in death by her husband, EJ (Earl Jefferson) Edman, her father, Stuart Wood Jr. and her sister Peggy Olson. She is survived by her daughter Kayla (Wood) Griffith and her husband, Johnny; her step-son Eian Edman; her mother Patricia Wood; her, two brothers Stuart Wood III and his wife Linda, John Wood and his wife, Vhara Salvadori; and her brother-in-law, David Olson, as well as her niece Cassidy Olson and her three nephews, Justin Wood, Brendan Wood and Calvin Olson.
