Joan Whipp Vogel, age 78, of Monument, Colorado — previously of Georgetown, TX; Henderson, NV; and many places in between, all the way back to her childhood in Vienna, VA — passed away peacefully on May 6th, 2026, surrounded by love and held in the care of her family. After choosing comfort and dignity in her final months, she completed her life on her own terms, just as she lived it — with independence, strength, and a deep desire for connection.
She was born on June 11th, 1947, in the District of Columbia and spent the early part of her career working for the CIA before later moving into mortgage lending. She carried a lifelong sense of adventure, especially during the years she spent living abroad, and those experiences remained some of her most cherished memories. She was also an avid reader, finishing nearly 200 books last year — stories were one of her greatest joys.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy; her grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Samantha, and Tyler; her son, Carey; her former daughter in law, Alyson; her sisters, Karen Kelly and Sandi Cristman; and extended family and friends who will remember her in their own meaningful ways. She is preceded in death by her loves, Philip Vogel and Jimmy Williams.
Those who knew her will remember her for her strength, her humor, and the unmistakable spark she carried. If you were lucky enough to have experienced her deep laughter — the hehe, haha, hoho, breathless and tear filled kind — you were truly blessed. Her family is grateful for the moments of connection, forgiveness, and tenderness that emerged in her final chapter.
This memorial page has been created through Neptune Society for anyone who wishes to share memories, stories, or reflections. Your words will help honor her life and the impact she had on those around her.
May she be at peace, free from pain, and held in the love of those who remember her.
