
George was born on June 1, 1955 in Tacoma, Washington to the late William and Gloria Thomas. He attended University of South Carolina and earned a Master’s Degree at the State University of New York, pursuing a career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. George was known for his expertise with prisoner escape consulting, and he taught Criminal Justice courses at Pikes Peak Community College, in addition to teaching soldiers and civilians at Fort Carson Army base. He was an avid hiker and backpacker, logging 22 hikes in the Arizona Grand Canyon in addition to the mountains of Colorado, Pennsylvania, and a month of backpacking in New Zealand.
George is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann Thomas of Canon City, Colorado; two sisters, Ellen Keeler and Kay Harrison, both residing in Ohio; a brother, Ronald Anderson residing in California; two step-children, Dr. Thor Edmiston residing in Pennsylvania and Michelle Parker of Canon City, Colorado; three step-grandchildren, Ian Edmiston, Aidan Edmiston and Gabrielle Edmiston-Schmoyer, all residing in Pennsylvania; and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Harper Edmiston and Rowan Edmiston; as well as many friends from his profession as an Associate Warden, including his beloved friends Michael Caltabiano and Joe Cameron; along with his cattle dog, Trexie.
