Gary Wayne Roberts

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Honora Roberts of Buena Vista; his daughter, Jeannette Kincaid (Rodney); and his grandchildren, Steve and Wrya Kincaid of Austin, Texas.

Gary passed away shortly after moving to a memory care facility in Colorado Springs following a rapid decline from Lewy Body Dementia.

Throughout his life, Gary owned and operated several businesses, but his true passion was building and restoring classic muscle cars. Whether under the hood or sharing stories with friends, he found great joy in the craftsmanship and camaraderie that surrounded the hobby.

Gary was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He was also a generous host who could always be counted on to mix a mean margarita or a perfect Old Fashioned while entertaining family and friends.

Travel was another of Gary’s great joys. Having grown up in an Air Force family, he experienced many places early in life, and he continued exploring throughout the years with his wife, Honora. Together they traveled extensively across the United States, Mexico, and much of Western Europe and the Mediterranean.

After retiring to Buena Vista, Gary became an active and dedicated member of the community. He was a proud member of the Optimist Club of Buena Vista, where he chaired the Mountain Mania Car Show, cooked sausage at pancake breakfasts, and volunteered for numerous community projects. His contributions included helping build the playground next to the Community Center, participating in highway cleanup efforts, and supporting many youth-focused initiatives.

In recognition of his dedication and service, Gary was honored as Optimist of the Year in 2021 for his work benefiting young people in the community.

Gary will be remembered for his generosity, humor, craftsmanship, and commitment to his community. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be planned at a later date.
