Dick was a dear friend of my Mom and stepdad. He was also my beloved doctor when I was in my 20’s. I last saw Dick when he came to my Mom’s funeral in April 2017. God bless him.

So sorry to learn of Dr. MacDonald's passing; He delivered my second son, Grant. I got to know his trwo sons when I "coached" them and my two boys in flag football at Citrus Elementary.
I had the good fortune to get acquainted with Dick, personally in a writing group.
It turned out that we both were members of the same social fraternity, Delta Upsilon.
, Dick in Canada, me at Nebraska.
He was one of the kindest, caring doctor's that I've ever met. My condlences tohis family.
Rest in peace, Dick.
Dick Cory

I met "Dick," as he was known, in 2007 at a volunteer training by Final Exit Network in Los Angeles. We corresponded many times over the years. I became a MAID provider in Oregon, and never became a volunteer guide with FEN, although I did do medical evaluations for FEN applicants for a time. We last saw each other in Berkeley CA in early 2020 during the establishment conference for the American Clinicians Academy for Medical Aid in Dying (ACAMAID). Earlier while still a FEN medical evaluator I attended a FEN Board meeting in Chicago, where Dick demonstrated the inert gas method which was filmed by PBS for a documentary on "Frontline" entitled "The Suicide Plan." On my way up I-5 from California to Oregon a fews ago I rang him up. He invited me to his home where we shared experiences together over lunch, and later with a dram of single malt scotch. I think it might have been Talisker. Another time he called on me in Ashland on his way to visit a terminally ill person who was denied access to Oregon's DWDA. Enough history. Dick McDonald was a gentleman and physician endowed with an immense measure of kindness. Also a teacher and scholar. He left the right-to-die movement better informed to carry on.

Sending much love to the whole MacDonald family.
With love,
Pat and Mollie Macarthy
