Paul was born on May 28, 1941, in San Jose, California, to Franchesco Paul Buttitta, originally from Utica, New York, and Lena Amato of San Jose. He spent most of his childhood in San Jose, growing up alongside his beloved sister and lifelong best friend, Lena Buttitta.
Paul proudly served as a sergeant in the California National Guard. He later earned a master's degree in Computer Software Engineering from San Jose State University. Following graduation, he began a distinguished career with IBM, where he worked for more than 35 years.
During those years, Paul started a family with his first wife Jane Curtner. He was the proud father of three sons: Michael, Mark, and Steven Buttitta. His boys were his pride and joy, and he rarely missed an opportunity to support them. Whether cheering from the sidelines or enthusiastically encouraging them from the stands, Paul was always their biggest fan.
In 1996, Paul married Carol Kline in Monterey, California. They shared many wonderful years together, and Paul especially enjoyed Carol's cooking. Their love of travel took them to Europe, Egypt, and the Greek Islands, often accompanied by their beloved Urantia Fellowship Group. Paul and Carol also enjoyed opening their home in Aptos for monthly fellowship gatherings, where friends came together to share readings and discussions from the Urantia Book.
Paul was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren, who brought him tremendous happiness. Some of his favorite times were spent gathered around the dining room table playing Qwirkle, dominoes, and poker. His competitive spirit made every game memorable, creating countless cherished memories for his children and grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Carol.
He is survived by his loving sister, Lena Buttitta; his three sons, Michael (Dina) Buttitta of Chico, Mark Buttitta of Brentwood, and Steven (Ellese) Buttitta of Chico; seven cherished grandchildren; his niece, Debbie Caminiti; and his nephews, Tony and Dany Turnbull.
A graveside celebration of life will be held at a later date.
