Buddy was born on September 10, 1943, in Oakland, to Leo and Pauline Pergson. He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1961.
At the age of 17, Buddy became paralyzed, facing challenges that would have stopped many others. Through determination, resilience, and an unbreakable spirit, he overcame every obstacle placed before him and went on to live a full and meaningful life. He never allowed his circumstances to define him and inspired those around him with his strength, humor, perseverance, and deep appreciation for life and family.
From 1962 to 1964, Buddy worked at Genge Industries in Oxnard as a Technical Illustrator for the United States Navy, helping design missiles during the Vietnam War. He was highly skilled in his work and took great pride in his intelligence, creativity, and attention to detail.
In 1969, he married the love of his life, Sandra. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter while living in Martinez, Concord, and Walnut Creek.
In 1978, their daughter Laura was born, and Buddy often said she was his greatest achievement in life.
In 1985, Buddy moved to Willows, California, where he worked as an electronic repairman. Over the years, he became well known in the community for his friendly nature, gift for conversation, and ability to make those around him laugh. Willows was not just where he lived—it was home, filled with the family, friends, and memories he cherished most.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Buddy took immense pride in his family. He will be remembered for his love of life, remarkable strength, and his gift for conversation—he truly never knew a stranger. He always had a story to tell, a joke to share, and a way of bringing joy to those around him.
Outside of work, Buddy enjoyed fishing, hunting, painting, and, in retirement, researching genealogy.
Those who knew Buddy knew they were never far from a good story, a laugh, or a conversation that could brighten even the hardest day. His strength, humor, and ability to connect with people left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. More than anything, Buddy loved his family deeply, and the memories he created with them will be treasured forever. Though he will be greatly missed, his love, laughter, and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra Pergson; his daughter, Laura (Scott) Pedro; his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Josh, and Jordan; and his great-grandchildren, Mia and Isaac.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Pauline Pergson; his brother, Robert Pergson; his sister, Barbara Estes; and his great-grandchild, Mateo Gonzalez.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for Buddy, especially the compassionate hospice team who provided comfort and support during his final days.
Buddy will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Willows Christian Church, located at 200 S. Plumas Street, Willows, California. A reception will follow the service. Please contact Laura for details.
