Stan Sullins passed away on January 6 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife Judy, sons Josh and Jim, daughters Kathy, Janna, and Mindy, and their families. He was predeceased by his brothers Gerald and Daniel.
Born in Texas in 1941, Stan was raised primarily in Kansas. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Marine corps and deployed to Vietnam as a construction engineer. He spent several years stationed in Vietnam and parts of Japan, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant while on active duty. During this time he married his first wife Karen, and had two children, Kathy and Jim. Following two tours of duty in the Marines, he was honorably discharged and joined the reserves, where he was a highly respected heavy equipment operator instructor and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant before retiring.
While in the reserves, Stan continued serving his country by joining the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. It was during this time that he met Judy Sullins (née Burns), and the couple married in 1975. Together they started and ran their general engineering company, S&J Tractor, in Valley Center, California, where they began raising their son Josh. They were very active Rotary Club members in Southern California and provided many charitable services to the Valley Center School District.
In 1993 the family moved from California to Sequim, Washington. Stan continued working as a construction engineering project manager and estimator. Following their retirement, Stan and Judy traveled the country in their RV before eventually settling in upstate South Carolina. They enjoyed living on the lake and spending time with their grandchildren and friends, and Stan beautifully renovated their home and garden. In 2022 the couple moved briefly to Nevada to be closer to their daughter Janna, and were in the process of a return move to South Carolina when he was diagnosed with liver cancer. Stan passed peacefully, surrounded by family in hospice care, on January 6. His final days were full of love.
