Sarah Coetha Mitchell, devoted Jehovah’s Witness for 56 years, transitioned to her resting place peacefully at home with her family in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 26, 2023 at the tender age of 99.
Sarah was born on July 2, 1923 in Fairmont in Robeson County, North Carolina to Ellison Mitchell and Ressie Gaddy Mitchell. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 8, 1967 and served in congregations in Jamaica Queens, New York, Duquesne, Pennsylvania, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Known to her family as Aunt Coe, Sarah had a love of travel. She was a wonderful big sister and disciplinarian to her brother and shared many stories with her family about their upbringing. She loved telling about her travels abroad including Europe, London, Hawaii, Germany, and many more places. Sarah had a love of reading, crocheting, and journaling. She was extremely neat and organized, and she loved to cook and eat sweets. Sarah spent a lot of time letter writing and studying the scriptures. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed nightly news. She would watch the Pittsburgh Steelers at every opportunity with her family and rooted for their victory.
Sarah was preceded in death by her son, Michael Mitchell, who was an avid artist and served his country in the US Army. He was sought after by Hallmark for his amazing illustrations, and he loved his mother dearly.
