Sandra Leigh Irby

Sandra Leigh Irby 77, died peacefully on September 7, 2025. Growing up in Charlotte, NC, her family meant a great deal to her. She always took care of her younger brothers and sisters. Sandi graduated, with honors, from Natural Bridge High School in Virginia - a place near and dear to her heart.

Sandi loved children and was fascinated by childhood development. She enjoyed how smart and funny children could be and made being a nanny her life’s work. She loved each and every one of them. She enriched their lives and theirs hers. Her life was full of laughter and she had a fabulous sense of humor.

Sandi was preceded by her parents, Arthur Samuel and Ena Mae Monteith Irby, and our beloved brother, Sammy, who died in Vietnam. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Carole Jarvis McAlpin, brother Richard Arthur Irby, sister Suzanne Irby, and sister Shelia Frederiksen, along with seven nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews, and one great-great niece. At Sandi’s request, there will not be any funeral service.

Sandi loved the color purple. In her memory, you could bring that color into your life, or plant a tree in her memory, or best of all, her legacy, do something kind for someone else.
