Reverend Doctor Sam Lee Slack

Prior to his retirement, he served as Director of Pastoral Care & Counseling for the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church in N. Canton, OH.

After his retirement, he and his wife, Natalie, relocated to Summerville, Indiana, and Rock Hill, SC before settling in Matthews, NC to be closer to their two daughters and three of their grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. In 2024, they traveled to Japan where they had previously met and taught.

An avid fly fisherman throughout his life, he spent hours on streams and rivers. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, making flies and custom fly rods.

Sam is survived by his wife, Natalie; daughter, Juli Kline (husband Kevin); son, David (wife Julie); daughter, Sonja Payne (husband George); and grandchildren, Sydney and Sophia Slack, Chloe, Sarah and Max Payne.

His memorial service will be held on January 10, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Myers Park Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service.
