Phyllis Jean English

Phyllis Jean English (nee Roberts), 81, departed this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, leaving a legacy of hard work and dedication to family. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 23, 1945, the fourth child of Haven E. and Elzena M. Roberts (nee Anderson). Her parents and her beloved husband, Dale L. English, predeceased her.

She is survived by her loving sons, James L. (wife Maryjo) and Michael R. English (wife Amanda), and daughter Christine L. Hartle (husband Patrick). Also surviving are grandchildren, Amber, Jeffrey, Erik, Alexandria, Karen and Georgia, and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Austin, Alexander and Ava as well as a sister, Sandra J. Kranick (husband Carl), and brother, Gregory Roberts (wife Marissa). Her siblings Carolyn Ritter (husband Warren), Haven L “Buck” Roberts (wife Dolores) and infant brother Richard R. predeceased her.

After raising their family in the Cleveland, Ohio area for many years, Phyllis and Dale moved to Florida in 2000. After Dale’s passing in 2025, Phyllis decided to relocate to North Carolina. She was anticipating a move into her new home in Ferguson, North Carolina when a tragic accident took her life.

Phyllis was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her cousins and enjoyed her visits with them at their annual Roberts Family reunion.

She enjoyed life and was the life of a party. She and husband Dale enjoyed dancing and were always the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. She was outgoing, vivacious, loving, compassionate and kind. She loved cooking for her family and was an avid baker. It was not unusual for her to bake and share upwards of a thousand Christmas cookies, taking several days to accomplish, at the end of each day calling to share with her sister, Sandy, what each of them had accomplished that day.

She will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew her.

Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
