

John P. Burke Jr., aged 84, passed away peacefully at his home on December 19, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on July 25, 1941, in New York City, John lived a life defined by service, integrity, and devotion to family.
John was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School in Poughkeepsie, New York. From a young age, he demonstrated leadership and character as an Eagle Scout, an honor that reflected values he carried throughout his life. He went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy, answering this country's call with dedication and pride.
Committed to service and community, John was a longtime member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Charlotte, NC, Our Lady of Grace, Avon Park, Florida, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, organizations that mirrored his sense of duty, faith, and fellowship.
Family was at the heart of John's life. He leaves behind his wife, Margaret Buffone Burke; daughters Kathy White and husband Walter White of North Carolina, Coleen Burke and husband Michael Gates of Wisconsin, Noreen Burke of Virginia; and their mother Florence Burke. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Ferreri and husband Dick Young, brother Thomas Burke and wife Jill, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a proud grandfather to Walter White III and wife Ruth Ann, Meaghan Terry and husband Brice, Zachary White and wife Amy, and Briana Schneider, and a cherished great-grandfather to Wade, Leah, Brice, and Archie.
John was predeceased by his wife, Karen L. Burke, and his parents, John and Ruth Curran Burke.
John will be remembered for his integrity, loyalty, and steady presence. His legacy of service and love lives on through his family and all those whose lives he touched.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
