

James Thomas Black, 81, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 14, 1944, Tom lived a life defined by service, devotion, and quiet strength.
A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Tom carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. His time in the Marine Corps shaped his character—steadfast, disciplined, and deeply loyal to those he loved.
Tom was a devoted husband of 58 years, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Helen, his daughter, Julie, his son in law, Dean and his beloved grandson, Cooper, who brought him immeasurable joy. His family was the heart of his world, and he poured his love into every moment shared with them.
A longtime resident of Mint Hill, Tom was known for his kindness, integrity, and willingness to help anyone in need. He touched countless lives with his generosity, gentle humor, and quiet wisdom.
To honor his life, a Celebration of Life and will be held at The Barn in Mint Hill, North Carolina, where family and friends will gather to remember his warmth, his stories, and the legacy he leaves behind. The event will be a drop-in on Sunday, June 21 between 2 and 4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Novant Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte, whose compassionate care and support meant so much during Tom’s final days.
