Gary Cobb left this world and entered the gates of heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 14, 2025, at the age of 68. He was surrounded by his wife, Lynelle, and daughters, Rachel and Katie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Cobb; his mother, Ruth Donovan; and his father, Eugene Cobb.
Gary Walker Cobb was born to Eugene Cobb and Ruth Donovan on July 2, 1956, in Dyersburg, Tennessee. He graduated from Mid-South Bible College and received his Master of Divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. Afterward, he served as an associate pastor in Memphis and as a pastor in West Memphis, Arkansas. He later worked as Director of Training for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), where he led counseling and follow-up efforts. Gary trained thousands of people to counsel at Billy Graham Crusades, Franklin Graham Festivals, and Will Graham Celebrations. His powerful testimony had a ripple effect, leading many to Christ, who in turn shared their faith with others.
A loving husband, father, and friend, Gary never missed an opportunity to mentor others and share his light. He also had a passion for art, not only collecting it but creating his own. Anyone who knew Gary knew that Carmel, California, was his favorite place to visit and paint. His memory will be cherished by his family, colleagues, and the many lives he touched.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lynelle Cobb; his daughters and their spouses, Rachel and Craig Barnett, and Katie Cobb and Alek Wagner; and his brother, Brent Cobb.
A private service to honor Gary’s life will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 10 AM at The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, reflecting Gary’s heart for ministry and outreach.
His life was a light that will never fade.
