Born on November 18, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth was the beloved only child of James Joyce and Marie Joyce. She grew up in South Philadelphia and graduated from John Bartram High School before continuing her studies at Temple University. She was a devoted member of Zion A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia.
In 1965, Elizabeth married Joseph Pearson, beginning a life together marked by love and shared experiences.
Elizabeth built a long and distinguished career as an accountant with the Department of Defense. She started with the Defense Logistics Agency in Philadelphia before moving to their headquarters in Northern Virginia, where she earned the deep respect of her colleagues for her expertise and unwavering work ethic.
In 1990, she was recruited by the Comptroller of the Office of the Secretary of Defense as a Financial Analyst. Later, she transitioned to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, traveling across the United States in dedication to her work.
After retirement, Elizabeth settled in South Carolina, where she embraced her love for entertaining and traveling.
Known for her sharp wit and feisty spirit, Elizabeth had an unmistakable presence that drew people to her. She was a genuine soul, always true to her word, and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories with her first cousin, Helen Best; her two God-daughters, Saran and Damali Best; and a loving extended family, including the Ford, Nesbitt, and Williams families, as well as a host of dear friends from every stage of her life.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed, but her legacy of strength, kindness, and authenticity will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
