Delois Ann Lewis passed away at her home on October 17, 2023. Delois was born on May 6, 1947, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to the late Andrew Bowe, Sr. and Marie Bowe. She was a graduate of Trenton Central High School in New Jersey. Delois was married to Freddie Lewis for 43 years and raised their children in several states and Japan during his military career before settling in Memphis, Tennessee. Delois loved her family dearly. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Of all the titles she had, she loved being called “Granny.” She had many “adopted” children that she loved as her own. She was selfless and sacrificed so much to provide for and support her family.
Only July 24, 1984, Delois was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Delois attended the Raleigh Congregation in Memphis, Tennessee for many years prior to moving to Union, South Carolina in October 2021, where she as affectionately known as “Mama Lois.” Delois was zealous in the ministry and loved to share her faith with others. Delois had a gentle and mild spirit that endeared her to everyone she met. She was the strongest person you would ever meet. She was resilient and taught her children the value of loyalty, integrity and hard work by her example.
Delois is survived by her mother: Marie Bowe. Her children: Violet Thornton, (Ronald), William Lewis (Alexandria), Charlotte Ray (Roy), Ursula Graham (Linnel), Erica Carter (Cedric), Andre Lewis and Ashley Klish (Javon); four sisters: Elaine James (Haywood), Janice Johnson (Joseph), Vanessa Hill (Joseph) and Cynthia Williams (Brian); two brothers: Andrew Bowe, Jr. and Craig Bowe and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Delois was preceded in death by her father Andrew Bowe, Sr., her husband Freddie Lewis, her sister, Gladys Bowe, her daughter Carla Leach and other precious family members.
