David Scholl, lovingly known as “Pops,” peacefully went to heaven on January 20, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.
Born on November 24, 1944, in Aura, New Jersey, Dave was the youngest child of Edward Paxton Scholl (1900–1984) and Anna Leola Scholl (1911–1976). He was preceded in death by his parents and his five older siblings: Naomi Rowand, Edward Scholl, Adele Bertram, Irving Scholl, and Gilbert Scholl. Dave is now joyfully reunited with them all in heaven.
Dave married his one true love, Faith Joy Mahlman, on September 3, 1965. Together, they shared over 59 years of faithfulness in love and commitment. Over six decades, they built a family, many homes, and countless beautiful memories as they traveled and experienced life together.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Faith; his two children, David Mark Scholl and Darlene Scholl Draper; his son-in-law, James Andrew Draper; and six grandchildren, Christina Leigh Scholl, Bailey Joy Draper, John Andrew Graham Draper, David Grayson Draper, Anna Hope Draper, and Oleksandr (Sasha) Trymbytskyi, his cherished Ukrainian grandson. He was also blessed with one great-grandson, Adam James Martin. Pops loved his family deeply and found great joy in their lives and cheering them on in their dreams and accomplishments. Pops leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire them.
Dave’s life was one of service, creativity, and faith. A graduate of Valley Forge Christian College, he also attended Nazarene Theological Seminary. His ministry began as a young pastor building his first church at just 24 years old, sparking a passion for building that defined his career. Dave became a highly respected home builder. He served on the board of NARI, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry in Charlotte, NC, and won various awards for his renovation projects throughout the years. His ministry extended to building churches overseas and leading a prison ministry for six years, sharing God’s love with inmates nationwide.
Dave was a master woodworker, landscaper, and lover of nature, wildlife, and history. His life reflected his faith, love for God, and devotion to his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held, Friday, January 31st, at 11:00 AM at The Refuge Church 230 Refuge Way, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family will receive guests prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
