Charlotte Gortney French (81) of Loris, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord January 6, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gary L. French of Loris, daughter Sherry French Whisnant (Stephen) of Loris, and two granddaughters Allison Pole (Christian) of Ladson, SC, Rebecca Whisnant of Loris and two nephews Mike Oursler (Caroline) and Dave Oursler (Dominica) both in California.
Born in Jonesboro, Tennessee she was predeceased by her father David Gortney (TN), one brother George Gortney (TN) and one sister Jean Oursler (Ray) of California.
Throughout Charlotte’s life, including home and work, she was a keeper of the details from the pantry to inventorying everything even to her work attire. She was known for her work ethic and practicality while still showing compassion for others and crying at some point in most movies. She loved her family fiercely and always wanted the best for them and for them to be their best. Her most used and lived after life quotes were:
“There are three sides to every story; yours, mine and the right one - God’s.”
And “You don’t know what the other person is going through until you walk in their shoes.”
“Ms. Charlotte” was known for her love of movies, books and music, especially Elvis Pressley. She loved to laugh and dance - but at the “appropriate” times. Though she never learned to play the piano like she wanted, she did learn to Hula while living in Hawaii. She was practical in living her life but never without the love for those around her and constantly reminding us there is good in everyone.
The family would like to thank the loving staff at Home Instead, the Carolina Gardens and Agape Hospice for always taking such good care of Ms. Charlotte through her battle with dementia. At this time there are plans being made for a small memorial service at a later date.
