Born on October 29, 1944 in Oak Park, Illinois, Tom lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and unwavering humility. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Fred Laubach; his mother, Alma (Wainscott) Laubach; his mother’s longtime partner, Daniel Muscari (“Uncle Danny”); his brother, Fred C. Laubach; and his nephew, Fred M. Laubach. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maureen Laubach, whom he famously asked to marry him after their very first date. Tom also leaves behind his sons Daniel and Jeffery Laubach; his daughters-in-law Maggie and Marianne Laubach; and his cherished grandchildren Hannah, Nicole, and Erik Laubach. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Lorene Laubach, along with several other beloved brothers-and sisters-in-law.
Tom built an accomplished career in healthcare, rising from an X-ray technologist to CEO of Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines, Illinois, where he spent much of his professional life. He later brought his leadership to New York, overseeing healthcare operations for JFK and LaGuardia airports. Throughout his success, Tom remained grounded, known for his humility and quiet confidence. He spent most of his life in the Chicago area, with meaningful chapters in New York and Florida, and ultimately in Tennessee, where he and Maureen moved to be near their grandchildren. There, they formed a warm community of friends and enjoyed four wonderful years together. Though he didn’t claim many hobbies, Tom loved beach vacations, dinners out, time with family, beautifully decorated homes, random trips to the store, and a well-made vodka tonic with lime. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep love for his family, and the life he built through kindness, dedication, and heart.
Tom will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life event will be planned after the Holidays.
