Phillip Eugene Edwards, age 77, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and formerly of Lomita, California passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. He was born March 19,1948 in San Angelo, Texas to the late Thurman Edwards and Esmat (June) Edwards.
He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, and uncle as well as a caring and devoted friend. He loved to take walks with his beloved Patrick Henry, go for rides in his corvette and back in California, he thoroughly enjoyed riding on one of his many different motorcycles he owned thru the years.
Phil is survived by 3 loving daughters; Jennifer (Matt) Fisher, Missy (Howard) Isaacson, and Fallon Edwards; proud grandpa of four grandchildren; Katie (Fisher), Banyan (Byrd), Leikny (Byrd) and Reyann (Byrd) all of California. He was the beloved brother of Franklin Edwards, Frederick Edwards (Emily) and Mimi Sukup (Edwards) all of Texas as well as a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
After completing his education in Texas at West Texas State University in 1971, Phil spent a short time in New Orleans where he started his career with US Customs and Border Protection. After New Orleans, he moved west to California settling in and/or around the LAX area. He continued working and advancing his career. He was an import specialist with a concentration on textiles and electronics. Phil spent an amazing 42 years with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, retiring in July of 2014.
During the time he spent in California, he helped raise 3 beautiful daughters, Jennifer, Missy and Fallon. All 3 of the girls had their own special and unique relationship with their dad. On September 24,1988 Phil married the love of his life, Eileen Fitzpatrick. They were married just shy of 35 years when she passed in 2023. The same year he wed Eileen, they bought their house in Lomita, CA where they spent many, many happy years together until 2018 when they moved to Del Webb in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee to enjoy their retirement years.
Phil always had a project going, he liked to tinker with computers, cameras and stereo systems to name a few. He volunteered at Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, CA after his retirement in 2014, so he could be closer to Eilleen who was still working and volunteering as well. He was never a big traveler, but encouraged Eileen to go with her sister, one of their daughters or friends. Many years of happiness in the Lomita house raising the girls, entertaining family and friends' poolside and caring for his many pet dogs. He always had a dog he needed to tend to. He was a true lover of dogs.
After his retirement in 2014, he continued to do his projects and take care of his dogs. In early 2018, he and Eileen decided it was time for change once she was able to retire so they packed up and moved to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee in September of 2018. It would put them closer to Eileen's Ohio family and Phil's Texas family. Phil loved Tennessee and often talked about how incredibly happy he was that he and Eileen retired here. The past two years since Elieen's passing, Phil focused on Patrick Henry and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed a driving trip with his daughter Missy and son-in-law Howard to the Ohio annual Fitzpatrick Family Christmas gathering.
Phillip's wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread in the Pacific Ocean.
