Although our hearts are heavy, we are grateful that our mom is no longer suffering. After a long, courageous battle our beautiful Mom departed this earth Nov 5th in Springville, TN surrounded by all of her loved ones. Mom may have lost her memories, but she never lost her smile and spunk.
Mary Jane Clark, 89 was born December 21, 1936, in Defiance County, OH to Walter and Lois (Williams) Lutz. She and her siblings Forest James Lutz and Mildred Nancy Dietrich were raised on the family farm, taking care of livestock, growing crops and being spoiled by her Grandmother Viola. She attended Ney High school where she was valedictorian of her senior class and crowned prom queen wearing a dress hand made by her mother. Mary went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from
Methodist Parkview School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, IN. In 1960, she married George Clark Sr. of Montpelier, OH and had 3 children: George Jr.(Myra) Clark and Lana Metzger (Charlie Dunnagan) both of Springville, TN. and Todd (Christina) Clark of The Villages, FL.
Mary held various nursing positions throughout her career and had many stories to share including helping to deliver a baby just hours after birthing her own, working for various specialists, opening & directing two urgent care facilities in Decatur, IL before her retirement. Mary had an adventurous retirement living in Jekyll Island, GA, Santee, SC, Naples, FL and Paris, TN where she played golf, traveled walked the beach and cheered on the Buckeyes!
Granny was especially proud of all 5 of her grandchildren Rebekah Clark (Caleb Franklin), Shelby (Andrew) Sickley, Jacob Clark (David Ah Choy), Tucker Clark and Zoey Clark (Kile Campbell). Gigi adored her great grandchildren Austin and Evelyn Sickley.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Celebration of life and internment will be held in Naples, FL at a later date. Mom’s favorite charity was The Disabled Veterans of America where donations may be made in her memory.
Mom lived her life with optimism and gratitude. She had a beautiful way of finding the good in life and we will carry her spirit with us by remembering the words she proudly displayed in her home and lived by every day: “We are so BLESSED!”
