He served in the United States Army for more than 22 years as a combat medic and later as the Medical NCO, MSG, at the Combat Support Hospital in New Castle, Delaware. In addition to many awards and medals, he was a Bronze Star recipient. After retiring from the military, he settled in Stewart County, Tennessee where he has resided for more than 45 years.
He was actively involved in the community and church and known to many for his admiration and photographs of eagles at Fort Donelson National Battlefield in Dover, Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice K. Cole, his parents, Luther M. Cole and Evelyn I. (Leonard) Cole, his 2 brothers, William (Snook), Alfred (Pete) and a Sister, Gladys (Tootie).
Survivors include 3 children, Bernadette (Bernie) Klink and husband, John, Allen S. Cole and wife, Beth, Leigh Borden and husband, Scott; 8 grandchildren, Jashua Mendoza, Khorina (Mendoza) Adams, Jacob Mendoza, Isaac Mendoza, Lilliana Mendoza, Ema Borden, Amber Rowlette, Daniel Snow; great-grandchildren and a great great -grandson; one brother, Hal, and 3 sisters, Virgina, Sally and Peggy.
