Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved dear father Joseph Daniel Spidle (Dan) who sadly passed away following a yearlong battle with lung cancer on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the age of 80. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who was always there when we needed him. He also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community of Watertown, Tennessee.
Following a brief 4 year stint in the U.S. Army where he was honorably discharged, he began his career as a ticket agent in Chicago for the now defunct Braniff Airlines, traversing the cities of, Dallas, Ft. Smith, Colorado Springs and ultimately Nashville, later working for the U.S. Postal Service after Braniff’s collapse. During his more than 21 year career with Braniff and subsequently U.S. Postal Service, his true passion was farming, house boating at the lake, beachcombing and searching for arrowheads and being in wide open spaces with adventures which took him and his loving wife on extended RV trips around the country including Alaska.
He was predeceased by his parents Sam and Ruby Spidle of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and is survived by loving wife, LaVonne Frances Spidle (married 56 loving years), of Watertown, Tennessee, son, Sean Spidle of Burns, Tennessee and daughter, Stacey Leever of Watertown, Tennessee, along with six grandchildren, Josephine Spidle, Cannon Spidle, Megan Leever, Ian Leever, Rachel Leever and Grant Leever and many his siblings and their families from around the country.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
