John was born on October 27, 1944 to Arthur and Ruth Gronberg in Queens, New York. After John graduated from Fort Dodge High School in Iowa, he pursued a degree in education at Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee which later became part of Vanderbilt University. Once he received his Bachelor of Arts, John received a Fellowship from the Department of Education to pursue a Masters of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
John worked in a variety of industries including his first love in education, high tech management and juvenile probation officer. Upon successful retirement, he enjoyed spending even more time traveling, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing golf. He loved sports and cheered for his favorite Los Angeles Dodgers and Tennessee Vols.
John was predeceased by his mother Ruth, father Arthur, brother Jim Gronberg, and sisters Karen Ruebush and Edith Johnson. He is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Lisa Bailer and Loraine Brown; son Jeff Gronberg; stepsons Brian Gipson and Wayne Gipson; grandchildren Evan Gronberg, Sarah Gronberg, Harrison Bailer, Jake Gipson, Sierra Stewart, Colton Gipson, and Chance Gipson; and great-grandchildren Norah Stewart and Maverick Gipson. There are no planned public services.
