James Benjamin Smith

A memorial service followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at 2147 Wilma Rudolph Blvd Suite 101, Clarksville, TN (Coldwell Banker Office), on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 1:00 pm. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm.

James was born on May 17, 1941, in Washington, D.C., to James L. and Evelyn (Dobson) Smith.

James attended Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, VA. He married Helena C. Dunn on February 22, 1964. James had various jobs over the years, including bus driver for Fairfax County Schools, Metrobus driver in Washington, D.C., and the Orlando Seminole and Osceola Transportation Systems. He was a truck driver delivering Florida orange juice and a mechanic at the Naval Base in Orlando, FL. James also owned and operated Superior Carpet Cleaning. He then finished his career as a custodian with the Florida School System.

James was actively involved in the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA). After retirement, James and his wife Helena traveled the United States in their RV and rode their Gold Wing motorcycle.

James is survived by his wife and their children and spouses: James L (Dawn) Smith of Clarksville, TN, William David (Penny) Smith of Lake Mary, FL, five (5) grandchildren, and four (4) great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra (Albert) Richter of Culpeper, VA.

He is predeceased by his parents, siblings David Smith and William Smith, and grandchildren Spencer Smith and Heidi Smith.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in honor of James is encouraged to Tennova Hospice of Clarksville, TN.
