Harold was born in Fulton, Mississippi, the oldest of five children. He grew up during the depression working on the family farm. He recalled plowing corn at the age of 10, growing vegetables, and picking cotton. When his father began building homes, he worked alongside him. There was some time to fish too, sharing a special time with his father when he managed to land a very large catfish.
He attended Mississippi State University, majoring in electrical engineering. He worked hard, scrimped and saved to acquire an education. During that time, he met his future wife Willie at a party. They later married in 1949. Harold always gave full credit to her for sacrificing so much to help him complete his education.
Harold and Willie moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1951 to begin his employment of 37 1/2 years with Westinghouse Electric. His education continued in 1957, earning a Master's of Electrical Engineering. He began a career that would allow him to travel the world, from Japan to The Netherlands. He co-authored a book on electrical transformers in 1959 and was the author of 16 patents throughout his career.
Raising a family of three children, he and Willie moved from Sharon, Pennsylvania to Muncie, Indiana. He worked at playing golf like he did most endeavors and was proud of the trees he planted as small saplings to later surround the entire back yard. He also liked to play Big Band music on Sundays and watch football with Willie. Eventually moving back to Pittsburgh and Jackson, Tennessee with Westinghouse after all the children were adults, Harold retired from Westinghouse in 1988. He then formed Harold Moore and Associates, a very successful consulting service. He continued to work until shortly before his death at age 95.
Niceville, Florida became home where Harold and Willie spent many happy years. There they made many good friends as neighbors and members of St. Jude's Episcopal Church, which they cherished. Harold was active on many committees and was a devoted member for many years.
Harold is survived by his wife Willie Ford Moore of Nolensville, Tennessee; two daughters and one son: Janet Sheridan (Peter) of Nashville, Tennessee, Keith Moore (Rita) of Rising Fawn, Georgia and Beth (Bruce) Murphy of Newnan, Georgia; Grandchildren Jenny, Megan, Matt, Sarah, Allison and Abigail; Eight great-grandchildren; Two brothers, Bobby Moore of Florence, Alabama and Danny Moore of Germantown, Tennessee.
