Geneva M. Brignolo, Executive Director at NATAS Nashville, passed away suddenly on October 2nd, 2023. She is survived by her brother Robert M. Morrissey, preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Tracie Morrissey. Survived by Niece, Susan T. Porter and her husband Robert F. Porter, Great Aunt to Jake A. Porter and Nikki A. Porter. Survived by Nephew Robert M. Morrissey II. Preceded in death by her parents John J. and Harriette M. Morrissey, and preceded in death by her dear brother John “Jackie” Morrissey.
Geneva, best known as G, began her life in Dorchester, Massachusetts growing up around lots of family and friends, spending summers on Cape Cod, visiting New Hampshire lakes enjoying family and boating, apple picking, Drag Car Racing and such.
She started working at the Boston Public Library and then in 1969, G found a lifelong career in television. She started out at WGBH-2, a public television station where she worked in the programming department on several shows including “Rockefeller Artists in Residence”, “Zoom!”, “Masterpiece Theatre” and “The Advocates”.
In 1975, she began to work at WCVB-5 on the program “Good Day!”. Then in the 80’s, after a move to Los Angeles to work for motor sports coverage, including NASCAR, she found herself in her new home in Nashville, Tennessee, where in 1994 Geneva became Executive Director of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), Nashville/Midsouth Chapter. She was also known for her work as a producer for the “Midsouth Regional Student Television Award for Excellence”, which has honored high school productions since 2003. She was awarded many Emmys and honors for her work throughout her life and career including “The Academy’s Governors’ Award” for Lifetime Achievement in 2012.
From hosting many parties and dinners for family and friends to traveling to places such as Budapest to work on “Live from Dracula’s Castle with George Hamilton”, G’s life will be remembered to all as being spirited and adventurous, leaving many laughs in our hearts. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, neighbors and her wonderful colleagues.
G had a kind and generous heart and supported many charities throughout her life. Please feel free to honor her memory with your favorite charity as her interment will be private.
