Gene was born on November 21, 1949 in Watertown, Wisconsin to Evelyn Dommerhausen and Orville Pastorius. He was raised in Milton, Wisconsin along with his 11 siblings on a farm. He was a successful student athlete, a part of the debate club, football and wrestling team.
In 1970 he was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a proud member of the 11th Armored Calvary “Blackhorse Regiment”. He was honorably discharged and awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery after risking his own life for the safety of his team.
After the war, Gene moved to Florida and raised four beautiful daughters and one caring son. He often said his greatest achievement was his children. He owned his own flooring business allowing him the flexibility to attend his children’s numerous activities and sports.
He retired to Tennessee in 2008 but never slowed down. He enjoyed working on his cabin, fishing for catfish and bluegill on his lake alongside his grandchildren and raising multiple cherished dogs with his high school sweetheart Dona DeJarlais. During this time, he would travel to see his children and grandchildren throughout the eastern part of the United States to attend extracurricular activities as a proud grandfather.
Gene is survived by his fiancée Dona DeJarlais, five grateful children; Danielle (Stephen) Scarbrough, Michelle (Jerry) LaPlante, Yvonne Pastorius, Sonya (Ricardo) Pastorius, Eugene (Katie) Pastorius Jr; 18 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Orville.
Arrangements for a celebration of life are pending and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene’s honor can be made to Alive Hospice online or by mail to 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203
