May 22, 1981 – June 27, 2025
Derek A. E. Fuhrmann of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on June 27, 2025. Mr. Fuhrmann was a devoted husband to his wife, Mackenzie and father to his two sons, Finn (5) and Boone (6 weeks).
Mr. Fuhrman was an immensely talented and award-winning singer, songwriter, and music producer. He graduated from the University of Delaware where he formed a band Omnisoul—later renamed The Crash Motive. The band built a formidable regional following and in 2005 signed with record label Sony BMG. National tours and a full-length release followed, along with song placements in major motion pictures, video games, sports arenas and network television.
Transitioning to a solo career in Los Angeles and later Nashville, Mr. Fuhrmann penned a string of award-winning songs, most notably co-authoring “Gone, Gone, Gone” with Phillip Phillips, which went double-platinum. A recipient of the ASCAP Pop Award, he collaborated with O.A.R., the Goo Goo Dolls, Five for Fighting and Kygo, among others. His peerless creativity, collaborative spirit and wry wit powered a song catalog that now generates more than 400 million streams annually.
Above all, Mr. Fuhrmann treasured the family he built. After meeting his wife in New York City, the couple settled in Los Angeles, where their first son was born. An uncanny athlete himself, he passed his talents on to his boys. A devoted fan of the New York Mets and the Miami Dolphins, his passions extended far beyond the recording studio.
In addition to his wife and sons, Derek is survived by his four sisters, Donna Salvagio, Karin Fuhrmann, Gail Fuhrmann, Nancy Pereira, and his two brothers, Andrew Fuhrmann and Rob Lithicum. He is also survived by his parents, Fred Fuhrmann and Deborah Kimelstein.
Mr. Fuhrmann’s spirit lives on in a wide circle of family, friends and creative partners. A celebration of his life will be held this fall in New York City. Those wishing to donate to his memorial fund may direct contributions via Venmo to @Mackenzie-Rader.
