David was born on October 21, 1955, in Hickory, North Carolina. He was raised in Hickory and graduated from Catawba County High School. Upon graduation, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1975.
After his military service, David found work in the automotive industry. He worked in sales and related activities. He then became a professional long and short-haul tractor-trailer driver. David’s passion was music, and he was active as a singer and a songwriter. He and Janis moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1998. There, he continued to drive big rigs and write songs, working with producers and musicians in Nashville. For a time, he also owned a music store. The store became a place where musicians would stop by, play, shop, and trade ideas.
David is survived by his wife Janis, and his brothers John, Will, and Charles as well as his son Michael and daughter Hannah. He was predeceased by his parents John Horace and Katherine Hart Morgan, as well as brothers Ronald, Vernon, and Timothy Morgan.
