Craig Erwin Mears, age 75, of Gainesboro, Tennessee, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Born on May 4, 1949, in Berlin, New Hampshire, Craig grew up in Berlin and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church. His early years in New Hampshire instilled in him a deep love of nature, from the forests and rivers of the North Country to the rolling hills of Tennessee, where he spent his later years. That love of the outdoors remained with him throughout his life, bringing him peace and connection to the world around him.
Craig was an avid reader with a deep love for poetry, often finding meaning and solace in the written word. He also had a passion for cooking, particularly enjoying making his mother’s traditional Norwegian recipes, keeping a piece of his heritage alive through food. Never short on advice, Craig enjoyed engaging in conversation and offering his perspective on life’s many challenges.
He is survived by his three children, Brian, Heather, and Derek, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, along with many nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life, Craig was known for his humor, generosity, and strong-willed nature. He enjoyed his own unique journey, forging his path with determination and an adventurous spirit. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or pursuing his passions, he made an impression on those who knew him.
He will be remembered in many different ways by those whose lives he touched. His legacy endures in the stories shared and the memories held by family and friends.
In keeping with his wishes, Craig’s ashes will be returned to the earth, scattered in the serene and beautiful places that held special meaning to him, allowing him to forever rest in nature’s embrace.
