Anyone who knows AJ knows he loved to tell a good story. Whether it was about the things he had done or the places he had been, he was always ready to tell you about it. AJ also loved his dogs and was preceeded in death by his best four legged friend Harley. The two of them were inseparable throughout Harleys life and you rarely saw one without the other.
AJ is survived by his wife Rose Perrone of TN, and sisters Florence and Donna of CT. AJ is also survived by his seven children Terry Perrone of CT, Judith Schmidt of VA, Tracy Whelan of MA, Kelly Bizier of CT, Robin Ryan of CT, AJ Perrone Jr of TN, Kris Perrone of TN, stepson Clay Dotson of TN, and numerous grandchildren.
AJ was preceeded in death by his mother Meme, his father Pepe, brother Louie and grandson Jessie Carrier all of CT.
AJ's military career was in the United States Army as a Ranger and a sniper. AJ served as a Tunnel Rat in the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart and also did two tours in Korea. AJ was very proud of his time served in the military and continued to advocate for veterans after his service. AJ is well know for writing Memorial Day: The Spirits of the Healing Wall. AJ was the driving force that led to the legislation that dedicated a stretch of road now called the Vietnam Legacy Veterans POW/MIA Memorial Highway. AJ was also the person responsible for the traveling wall display that has 27 names of Tennesseans who are recognized as POW/MIA's from the state.
AJ was a collector of old cars and motorcycles he had several throughout his lifetime. AJ had a collection of Indian sculptures, old jukeboxes and trains, amongst other things.
A private family service is planned to celebrate his life.
