Aliene Mengelberg Haynes, 97, loving wife of the late Alton Michael Haynes Jr, of Nashville, TN, formerly of Louisville, KY, died peacefully, September 4, 2018, at her home in the presence of her family.
Aliene was born August 14, 1921, in Louisville, KY, as the oldest child of Ernest and Gladys McKinley Mengelberg. She attended the University of Louisville. Aliene married her childhood sweetheart, Alton Michael Haynes Jr, on October 26, 1942.
She had an unwavering devotion to her family and the message of the Gospel. She was a Bible scholar, author and a noted Bible teacher in Nashville from 1960–1985.
In 1985, Aliene and Alton retired to Nokomis, FL, where she lived until 2008. She volunteered at many churches as an adult Sunday School teacher and prayed for more than 600 family members and friends every day well into her 90’s. She leaves behind an incredible legacy of love and service. She impacted the life of everyone who knew her. She is now reunited in Heaven with the love of her life, Alton.
Aliene was an intercessor prayer warrior, author, Bible teacher, seamstress, gardener, jigsaw puzzler, Scrabble player. She was always smiling!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alton Michael Haynes, Jr, son, Alton Michael Haynes III, brother, John Mengelberg, and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Claude Reader.
Aliene is survived by her four daughters: Donna (Bill) Tisdale of Brentwood, TN, Melinda (Mike) Hickey of Missoula, MT, Elizabeth Haynes of Osprey, FL, and daughter-in-law, Angela Haynes of Venice, FL. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Patricia (Frank) Gill, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Mengelberg and countless nieces and nephews.
Aliene and Alton had ten grandchildren: Anne Elizabeth (Brian) Hall; Michael, Steven and Samantha Maria Haynes; Shane (Erika), Bryan (Sarah) and Colin Hickey; Lauren Jackson (Travis Barrows), Allison Olivia and Alexander Walters; Rena (Rob) Sand. Thirteen great grandchildren: Peyton, Carson and Cameron Hall; Alexander, Tyler and Zoie Haynes; Keegan Handrich; Charles “Chas” and Caroline Sand; Simon, August, Sloane, Evelyn, Roman, Elliot, Elijah, Orson and Eloise Hickey
Memorial Service honoring Aliene (Oma) Haynes will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 1:00 pm.
