Rae Doty (Pooh) 89, of Idaho Falls, passed beyond Thursday, May 18th, 2023. Rae spent most of life in Buffalo Valley at the Diamond D Ranch which she and her husband Rod Doty built. She was born in Washington to Richard and Ruth Anderson February 1934, where she grew up with her brother Richard in Seattle.
She met Rod Doty who was just getting out of the Army. They were married in Seattle in 1954 and settled in Wyoming. Soon there was a family of three more – Russ, Laurel and Roger (Adrian) living in Casper. Rod bought a hunting camp at Two Ocean Pass from Holly Leek in 1964. The family was soon in Jackson Hole. Rae worked for Jackson Lake Lodge, cooked in hunting camp in the fall, and kept track of free range children. Rae also worked with Teton County Home Health. She came to know many Old-times and families locally, building and running Diamond D Ranch Outfitters for 35 years, with clients who often became close friends.
Rod and Rae came to know Jesus as their close friend and savior. Fellowship with neighbors in Winter was sublime. Rae and Rod were able to travel a lot around the country from Florida to Alaska in their Chinook motorhome. Pooh loved LaPush Beach in the Olympics, Washington. She enjoyed Hawaii and even rafting the Grand Canyon.
Retirement brought a passion for needle arts, quilting, knitting and a talented seamstress producing treasures for grandkids and great-grandkids. Rae is survived by her two sons, Russ (Lezlie) and Adrian, as well as two grandchildren, Mariah (Dave) and Bridger (Michaella), and one great granddaughter Lillyanna. Also an extended flock of family and friends, and Daisy, her pup. Rae is preceded in death by her husband Rod, daughter Laurel, and brother Richard.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Teton Cabins in Moran, Wyoming on Saturday, August 5th, 2023 at 1:00pm. Rae wished her ashes scattered in the mountains and oceans. The family would like to thank Pioneer Homestead and Jackson Senior Center for the incredible work with Moms mental disability, as well as Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living and Symbol Hospice during her final months.
