Jeanette’s early life growing up in Utah was centered around farming, family, and faith. She was raised with a strong sense of community in rural areas. The Mormon Church played a crucial role, influencing social activities and daily life. For Jeanette, her earliest memories were of playing around her family's old white farmhouse and at the nearby church. Families like hers were closely knit.
Jeanette and other community children helped with chores to improve family life.
Despite economic challenges from the Great Depression, people found joy in their close communities.
Jeanette's lifestyle was simple and connected to the community.
Jeanette dropped out of school as a teen to have her first child and get married. Despite the challenges she faced, Jeanette's determination never wavered. She worked tirelessly to achieve her GED/Diploma later in life. This accomplishment was a proud testament to her spirit and perseverance, showcasing her unwavering dedication to personal growth and education
Jeanette’s career journey began as a small business owner during a time when women were just entering the job markets. In the later chapters of her career, Jeanette contributed her skills and dedication to a school district in Idaho, a school district in Washington, before retiring from Thurston County in Olympia, WA as the janitor at the Health Department.
Jeanette enjoyed casino trips, sewing projects, and road trips to new places. She had a passion for party planning in Arizona and cherished community camaraderie. Her adventurous spirit and creativity brought joy to all who knew her.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her spouse Robert McPherson, her parents Lester Lavor Hayes, Margaret Eliza Hayes, and her siblings Richard Hayes and Edith Hayes Leavitt.
Jeanette is survived by her siblings Lester Verl Hayes of Maple Ridge, British Columbia; Reed Clyde Hayes of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Mary Elaine Hayes Jordan of Clarkston, Washington. Her children are Teresa Marie Laulusa, Scherri Lea Farley, Boyd Charles Hopkins Jr, Billy Ray Hopkins, David Scott Moser McPherson, Jeff McPherson and Lisa Dune. Her grandchildren are Jeanette Braun, Caleb and Tia Laulusa, Randy Fales Jr., Charles Daniel Farley, Carla and Kayla Hopkins, Kaylee, Kyle and Samantha McPherson, Amanda, Katie and Emily Dune.
She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, along with a great grandchild and a great-great-grandchild expected to be born in 2025.
We her children would like to acknowledge Jeanette, our mother, for imparting skills that enable us to survive, thrive, and enjoy life.
The family would like to thank Heart ‘n Home Hospice from Fruitland for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
The family will have a private celebration of life in August on the Oregon coast.
