August 18, 1924 – October 20, 2023
Launce was born at home near New Plymouth, Idaho, to Launce, Sr. and Hannah Flock. He spent his youth in the New Plymouth area, graduating from New Plymouth High School in 1942.
He joined the U.S. Army out of high school and spent most of World War II in the Philippines. He was an anti-aircraft heavy artillery gunner. His hearing was never the same, as they didn’t have protective equipment back then.
After the war he came back to Idaho. Eventually he trained to become a cabinet maker and spent many years employed by Collister Wood Products. Over the years, he built many cabinets for businesses around the area.
He enjoyed hiking, fishing, building things and reading about Idaho and Worl War II history. He read the newspaper front to back every day until a few days before he passed away.
Launce was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. He is survived by his children: Kay, Gordon and Steve and by several grandchildren. His family wants to thank the staff of the Bridge at Valley for their kindness. He requested that there be no funeral, but a simple family internment ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Idaho Historical Society or other charities of your choice.
