Genevieve Jewel Bongiorno

Genevieve “Genny” J. Bongiorno, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in California, Genny spent much of her life there before eventually making her home in Idaho.

Genny was a woman with a fiery spirit, a sweet heart, and an incredible capacity for love. She was deeply caring and loyal, and above all else, she loved her family very, very much. Her family was at the center of her world, and she created countless memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

Genny had a wonderful sense of curiosity and adventure. She and her beloved husband of 66 years shared an incredible life together, cruising around the world and sharing their love of traveling with all of their kids and grandkids. Their travels were a reflection of Genny’s love of experiencing new places and making memories together.

At home, Genny found just as much joy in the things she loved. She was an avid reader, particularly enjoying a good mystery and every now and then, a little romance. She loved painting and quilting, skills she learned from her mother and carried with her throughout her life. She could happily spend hours working on a jigsaw puzzle or playing puzzle games on her iPad. She was also a wonderful cook, her family will especially remember her delicious Christmas cookies, one of the many ways she showed her love through food and family traditions. Genny also had a strong love for animals and was always taking care of the ones who crossed her path. She had many family pets who she cherished and maybe snuck a few too many table scraps.

Genny’s life was filled with creativity, adventure, family, and love. She had a strong personality and a tender heart, and those who knew her will remember both her fiery spirit and her warmth. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories she created and the love she gave will remain with her family always.

Genny was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and a brother.

She is survived by her husband, a brother, three children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to First Choice Hospice for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided to Genny.

It was Genny’s wish that a joint memorial service be held with her husband at the time of his passing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Idaho Food Bank, an organization Genny faithfully supported throughout her life.
