Jack was in the Air Force and lived in numerous places, but in 1960 Ele and Jack became parents of Tony Jack Hoover in Tripoli, Libya (Wheelus AFB). They returned to the United States in 1962 and settled in Fairfield, California in 1965. Ele worked in the procurement department at the Travis Air Force base. She retired in 1986. Ele and Jack had a wonderful life and enjoyed many years with their “Dirty Dozen” friends, Eastern Star and Mason organizations. Ele was Worthy Matron in 1982 and 1992. She cherished her many friendships made at the Susuin, Rio Vista and Saddleback-San Clemente chapters.
Jack, Ele, and Tony spent many summer vacations at their mobile home on Lake Berryessa with the Olsen family. The Olsen’s were Tony’s second family, especially the kids who were his adopted sisters and brothers still to this day.
Upon her beloved husband’s passing- Ele was persuaded by her family to move closer to them in San Juan Capistrano and purchased a home in San Juan Hills golf course community. She moved in 2003 where she enjoyed watching her grandsons grow up attending many of their sporting events. She was the proudest Grammy and loved her boys. Ele was not one to sit idle, she became the President of the San Juan Capistrano Senior Club in 2016 and handled the club’s advertising since 2011, remaining an active member until 2018. She was active in the community and got to know many local commerce by selling advertisement spaces in the Senior club’s newsletter. Ele was also a shopper! Her e-mail was [email protected]! She loved Christmas and was known for wrapping presents by recycling old Christmas card covers and using them as a gift tag. She loved embellishing gifts with felt yarn and did so with her favorite color RED! Ele loved writing cards to family and friends, never forgetting a birthday or special occasion. Most of her cards started with Roses are Red, Violets are blue, and she would customize based on the occasion with a silly little rhyme.
Ele’s proudest moments were spent with family. She loved attending Tony’s MBA graduation from Pepperdine and her grandson’s graduations from high school and college. Attending Kevin and Mikayla’s wedding in 2020, cheering on Eric as he followed in his grandpa and grandad’s legacy by serving our country in the US Navy. And Scott, where she got to meet his girlfriend, Linda at Christmas time 2022. Her last and most touching event was meeting her great grandson Atlas at her 93rd birthday party at the Capistrano Senior Living Center, where she most recently resided.
She enjoyed watching old Doris Day movies and listening to Barbara Streisand and Frank Sinatra CDs were a couple of her favorites. Ele loved to cook, being full Italian, her favorite dishes to make were homemade spaghetti and meatballs by scratch and veal scallopini. She loved, loved, loved chocolate and a box of Godiva or See’s never lasted long in her house. She took pride that she never went gray, as she never missed a weekly hair appointment.
She treasured many of Tony and Alicia’s friends that she met along the way, namely Troy Lovelace and Louis Sklar, sons of other mothers, made her famous chocolate nut bars with milk whenever they were over. Jerry and Lori Person, where Jack and she would camp out in the front of their house in their Winnebago while down visiting. Most recently, while Tony and Alicia were travelling, their dear friend Sydney Schweitzer was a loving caregiver to her.
Ele, Mom, Grammy, and Great Grammy will be truly missed but not forgotten. We as a family are at peace knowing that she has finally been reunited with her beloved Jack. Thank you all once again for taking the time to share Ele’s life and memories….
